Day Eleven

This was the final leg of our journey together to Daytona. It was pretty uneventful, and we did not stop to take any pictures along the way. It wasn't easy to cover a lot of miles with many miles of reduced speed limits.

Ron is a real animal lover, especially dogs. In fact, he often takes his dog with him on bike trips in a tank bag. Apparently, quite a few bikers take their dogs along on rides, and they even have a support organization, Dogs on Bikes.

Ron told me one story of being kicked out of a rally because the town where the rally was held prohibits dogs. Imagine that, a town that you cannot enter if you have a dog with you. Dogs on Bikes held a protest, and several members were arrested and carted off to jail.

Being such an animal lover, Ron can be counted on to pause and beckon to any dog or cat we encounter along the way. He started admiring an adorable blonde pit bull terrier pup in a car where we stopped for gas. The dog owner struck up conversation with us and offered food, shelter, and entertainment. We were not at a stopping point to take him up on his offer, but he gave his name, address, and phone number to Ron in case he wanted to stop off on his way back to California. He said, "C'mon over, the old lady will make you something to eat, have a beer, get a piece of ass. Yeah, I'm a nasty white boy. I know all the local hookers."

Late in the afternoon, I turned south on I-75 to pick up my friend Jaci, who is going to Bike Week with me. Jaci lives in a suburb of Orlando. Ron continued on I-10 to I-95 to his father's house just south of Daytona Beach.

I made it to Jaci's house about 11:30 PM, about 550 miles from the day's start.
